DESCRIPTION

Between March and July 2018, Human Rights Watch and Kerem Navot found at least 139 Airbnb property listings in 61 Israeli settlements in the West Bank, excluding East Jerusalem. These listings are inherently discriminatory since Palestinian ID holders are effectively barred from entering settlements, while Israelis and foreigners are welcomed. Settlements are also illegal under international law.

On November 19, 2018, in the lead-up to the publication of a key Human Rights Watch report featuring these visuals, Airbnb announced that it would remove listings in Israeli settlements. This policy change reflects years of research and advocacy by human rights groups, who will continue to monitor whether Airbnb follows through on its promise.
