Last updated January 26, 2024

Visualizing Palestine (VP) is committed to safeguarding your privacy rights and ensuring that your personal data is protected.

This Privacy Policy sets out how and why we obtain, use and protect personal information.

What is personal information?

Visualizing Palestine defines personal information as any details that may render a person identifiable. Examples of personal information include but are not limited to: name, email, phone number, address, city, educational history, credit card information, contribution history, Membership status, and profession.

When does VP collect personal information?

The type and amount of personal information VP requests of its users depends on the specific activity users choose to engage in on our various platforms.

You share your personal information with Visualizing Palestine when you sign up for our newsletter, make a one-time donation, become a member with a recurring donation, register for an event, download visuals, follow us on social media, or through other online and in-person interactions. In these cases, we often ask for your name, address, email, phone number, and payment details (if you are making a donation).

In all of the above cases, VP avoids requesting extra or unnecessary personal information related to gender, sex, age, ethnicity, and so on that does not relate to the activity purpose.

We use this information to:

  • Process your donations
  • Contact you with announcements and information about and related to our publications and events
  • Fundraising activities
  • Administer supporter and subscriber records
  • Track open and click-through rates of our email announcements
  • Other reasonable purposes directly connected to your relationship with Visualizing Palestine

If we need to provide details to trusted service providers to undertake services on behalf of VP (for example, with the bank that processes your donations), this is done under contract, in compliance with strict Data Protection requirements.

For some activities, VP uses third party services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Dropbox, Bloomerang, and Basecamp. Your personal information may be present on these third party softwares in some cases, and are therefore subject to their privacy policies. VP considers the privacy implications of using these products, and does its best to adopt tools that both serve its needs and protect user privacy.

We will never sell your information to anyone. We do not share, trade, or sell email addresses with other companies or partners or use or disclose your information without your consent, except as required by law.

Website visitors

In accordance with common practices, VP collects non-personally-identifying information on its website traffic. We may use third party services, such as Google Analytics, for this purpose. Information collected includes browser type, language preference, referring site, date, and time of visitor activity on the website. We may use this data externally in our reports about our audience, or internally to assess our websites’ performance.
