The global standard for humanitarian emergencies states that the maximum number of people using a toilet in crises should not exceed 20 individuals, but in Rafah, Gaza there is one toilet per 850 people. In this visual, we wanted to show how various conditions of mass displacement and genocide which started in October 2023 (overcrowding, malnutrition, lack of sanitation) are intersecting to create a surge of infectious disease in Gaza. These conditions heighten the risk that epidemics could emerge. Inflicting such dire conditions on Palestinians, in and of itself, qualifies as an act of genocide.
