Horrific testimonies have emerged from Palestinians held captive in Israeli detention centers and prisons. They describe killings by beatings and medical neglect; widespread torture; and cruel, inhumane, and degrading treatment. These conditions are not new, but they worsened after October 2023.
Almost 40% of Palestinian political prisoners have not been charged with a crime. Many have been charged with “crimes” of political or civic expression, or violating apartheid laws that are fundamentally unjust. Those who have been tried face a conviction rate over 99% in military courts fundamentally designed to shield Israel from accountability for war crimes.
