Child Prisoners

According to DCI-Palestine, 500-700 Palestinian children are detained in Israeli jails every year. Children are often taken from their beds by Israeli soldiers in the middle of the night, and most are subject to physical violence during arrest, transfer, or interrogation.

To highlight the experiences of Palestinian children living under occupation, VI’s information designer Yosra Gamal conceptualized and designed this visual. As she explains, “All over the world, children should have the freedom to fly like little birds. But in Palestine, freedom is a dream that children have to fight for and create by themselves, much like how they create paper birds.” While the visual deals with dark content, its playful imagery evokes hope and recalls universal struggles for freedom.
