[September, 2026]. Over a year ago, the European Union (EU) found Israel in breach of the human rights clause of the EU–Israel Association Agreement. Yet the EU has refused to suspend the agreement, even as 12 European countries have imposed trade sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements.
In July, a European Citizens’ Initiative calling for the immediate suspension of the EU–Israel Association Agreement became the fastest-growing initiative to date, reflecting growing public support for Palestinian rights across Europe.
Once validated, its signatures will be submitted to the EU, putting pressure on its leadership to account for its inaction. This initiative is just one of many tools organizers are using to increase pressure on governments to uphold their minimum obligations under international law.
